In October 2025, at the construction site of the world's largest ship lift in King's Port, Saudi Arabia, the project team demonstrated the wisdom of Chinese craftsmen while completing the installation of the steel wire rope of the lifting system.
The breaking strength of the steel wire rope installed this time is as high as 1980 megapascals, with a diameter of 56 millimeters and a length of 200 meters. Moreover, it faces the challenges of a relatively large rope entry Angle and incompatibility with traditional tooling. To ensure a smooth winding process and protect the steel wire rope from damage, the technical team creatively transformed the used cable reels into temporary pulleys.
This "homegrown method" originated from the site played a crucial role. It effectively reduced the bending deformation of the steel wire rope during the winding process. Combined with the dedicated tooling and damping winch independently designed by the team, all the steel wire rope winding work was ultimately completed safely and efficiently, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent debugging of this super project.
